Teams Phone PSTN Users hit 20 million

Teams phone PTSN users hit 20 million

Another year another milestone for Microsoft to smash! In their recent Fiscal Year 2024 Q3 earnings they announced Team Phone has reached a milestone of over 20 million Teams Phone Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) users. This includes users that have either an Operator Connect, Direct Routing, Calling Plan, or Teams Phone Mobile number assigned to them.

This milestone shows an increase of ~30% year-over-year for Microsoft Teams Phone growth and continues to solidify Microsoft Teams as the dominate player in the market. This continues alongside the consistent growth year-over-year for Monthly Active Users for Teams which was sitting at 320 million monthly active users back in FY24 Q1.

Some exciting features have been announced and released by Microsoft which I believe has contributed to the growth of Microsoft Teams Phone some of these being:

  • Announcement of Copilot – Copilot was an exciting announcement for Microsoft back in September 2023, with the deep integration to Microsoft 365 applications and especially Microsoft Teams Phone. This would have been a big reason for some customers to move to Microsoft Teams Phone.
  • Shared Calling – Shared Calling has been a feature that has unlocked access to Teams Phone for users who would not have been likely to receive it before.
  • Queues App – Microsoft Teams Phone has been missing some key features that were only being filled by Third Party solutions in the past when it comes to Contact Center. However, with the announcement of Queues App back in March 2024 its feature rich capabilities have been looking to “fill the gap” for Agents and Managers alike when it comes to managing their Call Queues natively in Teams. As well as this more in depth “real-time” and historical reporting for these queues is due to come to the Teams Client as well.

Hopefully, with all of the continued features and announcements surrounding Microsoft Teams Phone we can continue to see a consistent growth in user numbers year-over-year. I’m really excited to see what features like the Queues App will bring to Teams natively so look out for blogs relating to this as soon as we have it available to us!
